Skomi and Umami

Umami is open source, cookieless, and easy to run yourself, which is what most people pick it for. Its hosted plans start free at one site, and self-hosting means the data is wherever you put it.

As of September 2026 it also sells session replays and heatmaps on its Business plan, so the old line about it being web analytics and nothing else is no longer true.

More than one site on the free planSkomi's free plan carries one site, which is a real reason to pick something else if you look after several small ones. Where Skomi differs from Umami

Skomi covers more ground, and less of it than it used to. Umami's Business plan now includes session replays and heatmaps, so behaviour capture is no longer the difference it was. What is still only here: analytics for the apps people install, and a feedback widget and public board. Those you would assemble from other tools.

Where your data lives is decided for you, in the EU. With Umami that is your decision, which is an advantage if you want to make it and a task if you do not.

Both are free to start, but not at the same scale. Skomi's Hobby plan covers one site with an allowance and asks for no card; past that you pay. Umami self-hosted is free however far you grow, which is a different and stronger offer if you are willing to run it.

What Umami does better

Open source, self-hostable, and free to run. Three things Skomi is not. If you are comfortable running a database and a container, Umami costs you nothing but attention, and nobody can change the terms on you.

It is also lighter than Skomi and simpler to learn, for the same reason Plausible is: it is doing less.

Which to choose

Choose Umami if you want to own the software and the server, or if free matters more than breadth.

Choose Skomi if you would rather not run anything, and want app analytics and feedback alongside the web numbers, or heatmaps and recordings without moving up to a plan priced for a much larger site.
